Another Approach to Job Searching

Another great resource for job searching isn’t in the newspaper. It’s not on the web. It’s not on Career Builder. It’s in the media. It’s in phone book. It’s in the community around you.

Confused? Don’t be. All you need to do is pay attention to the companies in your field. For instance, I’m looking for a web development job. So I scoured the web and found every twin cities web design firm and sent them my resume. I also included a cover letter asking if their company was hiring.

It worked pretty well. I got quite a few call backs. I of course got the usual “thanks, but no thanks” but you’d be surprised at how well this works.

A friend of mine tried this technique, and he just had his second interview yesterday!

So keep your eyes and ears open and get the word out that you are available and you have skills. Keep track of any of the companies that you would like to work for and start approaching them.
