Interview Lies

Top things people lie about during an interview:

  • Job history dates
  • Salary
  • Reason for leaving
  • Current employment
  • Skills
  • Schooling
  • Experience
  • Social security number
  • Ability to perform job duties
  • Criminal background

These are some of the easiest interview questions to answer but people find the need to exaggerate the answer to mislead the employer.

Yes, social security number is on this list. Applicants applying for positions that require a credit check or licensing will often give false information to get the position. This will only cause problems. If they have to contact you to verify this information it makes you look incompetent that you are not even able to remember your own social security number. When they do pull the correct number they will look a little closer at it to see what you were trying to hide.

A lot of jobs these days require a background check. If you have ever been arrested or charged with a crime this needs to be addressed either if asked on the application or in person if asked at an interview. Don’t waste your time on a job that you are never going to be able to get if you have something on your record that will prevent this from happening.

Employers will ask an applicant for proof of schooling. Some employers may even ask you to get a transcript that shows your grade. This is one of those things that you are unable to avoid. If you have gave them incomplete or wrong information you will be unable to provide these document. This will make it seem as if you are unable to perform a simple task as this is.

Skills and experience is something that may get you in the door if you lie about it. But when a supervisor asks you to do something and you are unable to accomplish this task because you have no idea what they are talking about. You will look quite stupid. This is not a good way to stay in a position. You will either get fired eventually or demoted. Either way this doesn’t look good on a resume.

Be honest with yourself and be honest with your interview. This will save you a lot of headaches and a lot of waste time. The more an employer sees that they get what they see the more likely they are to think of you for a position.
