Job Interview Etiquette
You should try and maintain good job interview etiquette. First impressions are big. This is something that can never be taken back or changed. Make sure your first impression is a good one from the begining.
Stand up
- When you see the person walking towards you to meet you, make sure you stand up to greet them.
- Do not make them stand there and wait for you to get up of the chair and get your things together.
Shake their hand
- Greet them with a smile.
- Look them in the eye.
- Make it a nice firm handshake.
- Say nice to meet you, “Name”. This way you’ll remember later.
Walk next to them if possible
- This makes it easier to have some small talk before the interview.
- Make a compliment about their building.
Don’t sit until they do
- Wait for them to ask you to sit.
- Let them direct you where to sit.
Body Language
- Make sure you do not slouch.
- Don’t stare at your shoes.
- Don’t fidget or squirm.
- Try to appear as comfortable as possible.
Be honest with your answers
- People can spot a liar a mie away.
- If you lie during the interview, what’s going to happen when you actually get the job?
Be responsive
- Don’t sit there looking disinterested in what they have to say.
- Make good eye contact.
- Try and remain positive and friendly.
- Choose your words carefully.
Wait for them to end the interview
- Don’t make it seem like you are in a hurry or have better things to do.
- Don’t drag out the interview either. If they want to cut it short let them.
Shake their hand again and thank them
- This is important in showing respect.
- Make sure to again look them in the eye.
- Use a firm handshake .
Following these simple things can make your next job interview a success.
