Mock Interview

I recommend that you have a mock interview. A mock interview is a practice interview that you do at home. A dry run so to speak, preparing you for the real thing.

The first step is to go online to sites such as this one that have sample job interview questions. Using Word or Excel, copy and paste these questions into a list. Compile a list of around 30 of the most common questions. Make it more if you want to have more variety.  read more »

Create a Blog

Another great thing to use for job searching is a blog. There are several free places to get blogs, plus there is always WordPress and Drupal. The idea is you can blog about yourself, your skills, previous employment, your hobbies, your home life, everything.

The more an employer can find out about you the better. Provide a link to your blog on your resume and cover letter. Use your blog as a marketing tool for yourself. Don't forget to post your resume online as well and make sure to have your contact information in an easy to find spot.

You can continue to use job boards, corporate websites, etc. but make sure you use social networking sites to your advantage. Networking is the best way to meet others who may be able to help you find a great job.  read more »
